This is basically a sequel to my previous V-Strom vs Versys series, as Lestes is a very curious rider! This time we climb up the engine displacement ladder.
Lestes O. from the Philippines asks:
“Mga paps, ano mas ok sa dalawa? Opinion lang ulit, V-Strom 1000XT or 2019 Versys 1000?”
“Hey guys, which one is the better bike of the two? Another opinion please, V-Strom 1000XT or 2019 Versys 1000?”
I voted the V-Strom 650 on part 1, but I should say this is not the same case here this time. And unfortunately, I haven’t ridden the new 2019 Versys 1000 yet.
The V-Strom 1000 is an excellent upgrade from the 650. Its larger 1000cc V-twin is bulletproof in terms of reliability, parts availability, and respect from other riders. However, despite being a new model now, it simply not enough to compete with its current competition. It’s not as well equipped as the Super Tenere, nor as offroad capable as the Africa Twin, or as sporty as the Versys. Sure, to fans who liked simplicity may like the Strom, but its price is just too unreasonable! But, the V-Strom 1000 is the most well-rounded machine in its class!
The Versys 1000, especially the latest 2019/2020 model gets my pick here. When it debuted, the Versys won multiple awards in both Europe and in the US for its excellent bang-for-the-buck factor. Plus this Versys looks way cooler than the last model, it does look like a premium model now! The addition of a cruise control that was lacking in the previous model makes wonders. Plus its agility on road can be on par with some of the Europeans finest with a fraction of the price!
Sure the Versys may not be optimal offroad compared to the V-Strom, but remember these are heavier beasts compared to the 650s. These bikes here in the Philippines are true ‘Leisure Bikes‘ too big for everyday commuting or squeezing thru EDSA & C5.
