Lestes O. from the Philippines asks:
“Mga papa, ano mas ok dito sa dalawa? Vstrom 650xt or versys 650? Penge naman idea jan?”
“Hey guys, which one here is better of the two? V-Strom 650XT or Versys 650? Can you give me an idea here?”
I have ridden both, a ’17 (2nd generation) Versys 650 & ’17 (2nd generation) & ’19 (3rd generation) V-Strom 650s, although not the XT versions.
The only things that the (Kawasaki) Versys 650 has are road-biased performance, better value per peso, & if you want to get the feel of riding a Ducati Multistrada although it has an inline-2. It also has the same engine as the Z650, Ninja 650, & Vulcan S. Its sporting nature and good looks makes it hard to beat.
On the other hand, the (Suzuki) V-Strom 650 has better all-around capability on & off-road due to its 19in front wheels, huge fanbase & accessories, a bit better fuel mileage, & if you want to get a feel of riding a KTM Adventure bike. Plus, its iconic V-Twin engine has been around for a while (since the ’90s I think). It’s been used with the SV650 & Gladius. It is also considered as one of the ‘world-ready’ bikes kasi kahit saan kang pumunta sa mundo, may piyesa siya (doesn’t matter where you are in the world, spare parts are available).
I prefer the V-Strom, simply because of its jack-of-all-trades nature and so easy to maneuver during the slow stuff due to its very smooth throttle calibration and low center of gravity. And it is very well respected by the BMW, KTM, Multistrada, & Triumph Tiger communities.
